How it works

Sense. Record. Alert. Optimise.

Minutes per fridge, no wiring, one gateway per building. Then the platform does the watching.

  1. 1 · Sense

Battery sensors clip onto fridges, rooms, doors and circuits and report every 10 to 20 minutes over LoRaWAN to a small gateway. The gateway forwards to a network server over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G.

  2. 2 · Record

The network server posts each reading to Tempa. It is decoded, matched to the asset it measures, linked to any calibration certificate in force, and stored in an append-only, UK-hosted record with the device’s own timestamp.

  3. 3 · Alert

Rules evaluate on every reading: thresholds with a persistence time (so a defrost cycle is not an alarm), hysteresis, door-open duration, silent sensors and low batteries. Open alerts escalate by email, SMS and voice call until someone acknowledges — from the dashboard or a one-time link in the message, no login needed.

  4. 4 · Optimise

Energy intervals, overcooling and compressor insights, thermal models and time-to-excursion are computed from the same record. Reports are generated on demand or on a schedule.

When the internet drops

The sensors keep the record.

LoRaWAN gateways do not store readings. The sensors do: the probe sensor we deploy holds over 3,000 timestamped records and, configured the way Tempa ships it, marks any reading the network did not acknowledge and resends it automatically once the connection returns. Tempa files each recovered reading at the time it was measured, flags it as recovered, and shows whatever remains missing as a gap — never as a flat line. A gap can be requested back from the sensor from the device page.

Recovery is deliberately slow (radio duty-cycle rules) and progress is shown in the dashboard.

Where it runs

UK-hosted, open at the edges.

Network server

The Things Stack for development and early pilots, ChirpStack or The Things Stack Cloud for production. Tempa only receives webhooks, so it is not tied to either.

Platform

Postgres in a London region with row-level security per organisation, append-only telemetry tables, and an audit log written by database triggers.

Your systems

CSV export of any range, PDF reports, and API keys for read access. Your data is yours.
